The Health Sciences Institute at Renaissance (HSIR) aims to cultivate learning, advancement and innovation to meet the healthcare needs of our community. We are committed to developing compassionate, patient-centered, ethical healthcare providers for our community. HSIR offers six certificate programs for healthcare professionals to provide a foundation for personal and professional growth.

sonography

Diagnostic Medical Sonography

This four semester (64 week) certificate program prepares students with associate or bachelor's degrees in an allied health education specialty for employment as diagnostic medical sonographers. Students will learn to use high frequency sound (ultrasound) waves to produce dynamic images of tissues, organs and blood flow inside the body.

Medical Coding Specialist

This three semester (48 week) certificate program prepares students for employment as a medical coding specialist. Students will learn to access health information, indentify diagnoses, and assign appropriate medical codes as well as narrative descriptions of health diseases and procedures required for reimbursement, medical research, quality assurance or risk management.

Patient Care Technician

This two semester (32 week) certificate program prepares students for employment as a patient care technician. Students will learn to perform basic care for patients in a healthcare facility and participate in a variety of didactic, laboratory, and clinical exercises learning CPR, first aid, EKG, phlebotomy, measuring vitals and patient information.

Pharmacy Technician

This four semester (64 week) certificate program prepares students for employment as a pharmacy technician. Students will learn to assist licensed pharmacists in preparing prescription medications, provide customer service, perform administrative duties and gain experience necessary to perform basic operations of a pharmacy.

phlebotomy

Phlebotomy Technician

This one semester (16 week) certificate program prepares students for employment as a phlebotomist. Student will learn to select the appropriate equipment and technique based on a thorough understanding of the needs of the patient, as well as the psycho-social factors that may impact specimen collection, and perform venipucture and capillary (dermal) punctures adhering to all standards governing patients and employees safety.

Medical Assistant

This three semester (48 weeks) certificate program prepares students for employment as a medical assistant. Students will learn to obtain record health histories, vital signs, weight and height, draw blood, perform basic lab procedures, a variety of front office and administrative duties, and routine medical tasks.
