Biography

Dr. Amit Taggarse is a cardiothoracic surgeon with advanced fellowship training in heart valve repair (mitral and aortic), Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) and septal myectomy for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Taggarse also has advanced fellowship training in managing a high-risk subgroup of cardiac patients with advanced heart failure requiring left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) such as Heartmate III and HeartWare, Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenator (ECMO) and heart transplantation. Operations that he regularly performs include routine coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG - with and without the use of a heart-lung machine) and valve replacements.

Dr. Taggarse grew up in Hyderabad, India with his parents who were both surgeons. He earned his medical degree from Osmania Medical College and obtained residency training in general surgery. He went on to complete a residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences. With the experience Dr. Taggarse has gained in private practice at the UM Cardiac Centre and Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad, India and the Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas, his advanced fellowship training from Mayo Clinic, and his clinical research and journal publications, DHR Health is very pleased to offer his services to the community in the Rio Grande Valley.
