Achieving the Impossible

Outpatient Rehabilitation

DHR Health Outpatient Rehabilitation provides a wealth of specialties and convenient locations for the benefit of the communities we serve. Our commitment to enhancing overall quality of life is demonstrated by our personalized care, specialty-trained therapists, diagnosis-specific programs, and access to advanced rehabilitation technology. Our service lines include orthopedic and sports rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation, scoliosis care, hand therapy, aquatic therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, pelvic health, and lymphedema management.

Aquatic Therapy

The DHR Health Aquatic Therapy Institute combines the benefits of exercise and therapy with the advantages of warm water to meet the needs of patients with musculoskeletal disorders. Aquatic therapy utilizes the warm, buoyant, and resistive properties of water to manage pain, reduce stiffness, and increase joint mobility.

Blood Flow Restriction (BFR)

BFR is the application of a specialized tourniquet cuff to the proximal portion of an exercising arm or leg to allow blood into the limb--and restrict blood outflow from the limb--utilizing personalized tourniquet pressure. Exercising in this manner allows the use of low-intensity exercise to elicit positive adaptations in muscle size, strength, or endurance typically associated with much heavier loads or higher intensities. BFR is backed by extensive research that shows its effectiveness and safety. Professional sports teams and advanced sports medicine facilities use BFR with great results for conditions including, but not limited to, joint replacements, Achilles repairs, rotator cuff repairs, muscle strains, fractures, nerve injuries, sports medicine injuries, and other post-operative conditions.

Hand Therapy

Hand therapy treats orthopedic upper-extremity conditions of the hand and arm. Conditions treated by a physical/occupational therapist trained in hand therapy include fractures of the hand or arm, lacerations, amputations, burns, and surgical repairs of tendons and nerves. This outpatient therapy also helps patients suffering from tendonitis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and carpal tunnel syndrome. The ultimate goal of hand therapy is to ensure that the rehabilitation process promotes healing while also enabling clients to perform meaningful activities in their daily lives. Hand therapy engages the patient in focused therapies to help the healing process and foster positive outcomes during quality-of-life activities.

Lymphedema Therapy

Lymphedema Therapy addresses the needs of individuals experiencing abnormal swelling. Occupational therapists, trained in the Vodder Method of Manual Lymphatic Drainage and complete Decongestive Therapy, work with each individual to establish a treatment plan to control swelling.

Lymphatic manual therapy is a gentle touch form of therapy that aids in the management of lymphedema. This therapy reduces swelling resulting from surgery, cancer treatment, or traumatic injury. There is no need to leave your community, as DHR Health offers lymphedema management therapy at our Lymphedema Therapy Institute in Edinburg, TX. Our center is essential if you experience swelling due to any of the following conditions: lymphedema, chronic venous insufficiency, or post-surgical swelling.

Neuro-Therapy

At this first-of-its kind facility, Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists combine the latest neuro-rehabilitation technology with a hands-on approach to help clients reach their full potential. All exercises are performed with telemetry heart monitoring to ensure patient safety. Our cardiac rehabilitation program is accredited by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

Physical Therapy

Our physical therapy program helps patients achieve muscle control, balance, flexibility and mobility, as well as build strength and endurance. We provide care for a variety of physical and functional challenges that result from brain injury or stroke, orthopedic injury, musculoskeletal condition, spinal cord injury, amputation, or neurologic disorders. We help patients achieve as much function and independence as possible.

Pre-Operative Rehabilitation

Pre-operative therapy may help speed post-operative recovery by increasing strength and function. Therapy focuses on increased strength, range of motion, and endurance as well as decreased swelling prior to surgery.

Scoliosis

The Schroth Method for scoliosis is an exercise approach that is used to help elongate the trunk and correct muscle imbalance of the spine that happens when someone has scoliosis. These exercises are designed to strengthen and balance the inner muscles of the rib cage. This is done with the goal to change the shape of the upper trunk to help fix or minimize any spinal abnormalities. The Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) and the Spinal Orthopedic & Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT) supports the role of this Schroth method and it’s exercises used for scoliosis treatment. This treatment approach can be used to treat patients of ALL AGES who have been diagnosed with scoliosis including those patients that have gone through surgery. This method is not effective or applicable on those patients that have been diagnosed with scoliosis because of neurological conditions. For more information visit us at Orthopedic Sports and Therapy Institute – Alamo to see if the Schroth Method could be of benefit to you.

Speech Therapy

Our speech therapy program assists individuals who have trouble with communication, language, and swallowing. Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular therapy, also known as vestibular rehabilitation or balance therapy, is a specialized form of physical therapy designed to address issues related to the vestibular system. The vestibular system plays a crucial role in balance and spatial orientation.

This therapy involves a series of exercises and techniques aimed at reducing the symptoms of dizziness, vertigo, unsteadiness, and imbalance. The exercises may include eye movements, head movements, and balance exercises, as well as techniques designed to resolve issues with the vestibular apparatus in the inner ear.

Vestibular therapy aims to help individuals regain their balance, reduce dizziness, improve spatial awareness, and enhance their overall quality of life by addressing and managing vestibular-related issues. The physical therapists at DHR Health Neuro-Therapy Institute specialize in treating vestibular disorders and conduct a thorough examination to determine if vestibular therapy is appropriate for your case.

People may benefit from vestibular therapy if they experience conditions such as:

  1. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV): A common vestibular disorder characterized by brief episodes of severe vertigo triggered by specific head movements
  2. Vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis: Inflammation of the vestibular nerve or inner ear structures, leading to dizziness and balance problems
  3. Meniere's disease: A disorder of the inner ear that causes recurring episodes of vertigo, hearing loss, and tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
  4. Post-concussion syndrome: Ongoing balance and dizziness issues after a head injury
  5. Balance and gait disorders: Disorders that affect balance reactions and walking mechanics, increasing the risk of falls
