Anesthesia

At DHR Health, our Anesthesiology Department is ready to take care of any trauma patient. An attending anesthesiologist is available 24 hours a day for emergency airway management in the ICUs, for conscious sedation procedures, and for comprehensive perioperative care in the TRU, OR, and PACU. Along with the other members of the OR team, our anesthesiologists are ready to receive trauma patients within 15 minutes of our most severe trauma activation. Trauma patients benefit from access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, which allows for the highest quality of care.

Burn Care

At DHR Health, our burn care teams provide coordinated inpatient and outpatient burn care for individuals who need specialized medical and surgical treatment. As part of our Level I Trauma Center, our experts provide care for patients with burn injuries that may involve critical areas of the body, inhalation concerns, or other clinical factors that require close coordination across specialties.

Cardiac Surgery

As the premier cardiology program in the Rio Grande Valley, the DHR Health Heart Institute provides a wide range of diagnostic and interventional procedures for the treatment of cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. We combine the latest technology with patient-focused care to create the best healing environment.

Direct to OR

Direct to OR ensures that patients with critical or life‑threatening injuries receive immediate surgical care as soon as they arrive. This pathway is designed for situations where every second counts, helping patients get the urgent treatment they need without delay.

Our team of trauma surgeons, anesthesiologists, emergency physicians, nurses, and operating room staff works closely together to provide fast, coordinated care. From arrival through surgery, each patient receives focused attention and expert treatment to support the best possible outcome.

Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery

The DHR Health Ear, Nose and Throat Institute provides specialized treatment for sinus, ear, nose, and throat disorders. Combining expertise and compassionate care with DHR Health’s advanced medical resources, we deliver accurate diagnostic services and effective treatments for patients of all ages.

Facial Trauma

At DHR Health, we provide advanced, comprehensive care for patients experiencing facial trauma. Hand Surgery

DHR Health Hand and Wrist Institute offers specialized treatment for ailments involving the hand, wrist, fingers, forearm, and elbow. Our team of experts is passionate about assisting adult and pediatric patients in regaining their full quality of life. With a board-certified hand surgery physician on staff, DHR Health Hand and Wrist Institute is well equipped to provide the quality care you deserve. Our patients have all of our resources supporting them, including access to DHR Health Orthopedic and Sports Therapy Institute Hand Therapy Center for continued hand and wrist care.

The Injury Prevention Division is committed to reducing the risk of serious injuries through education, community outreach, and evidence-based safety initiatives. Our multidisciplinary team works proactively to identify potential hazards, promote safer behaviors, and provide individuals, families, schools, and organizations with the tools needed to prevent trauma before it occurs.

Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology uses imaging as a guide for minimally invasive surgical procedures that diagnose and treat diseases. A wide range of interventional radiology procedures share the common goal of minimizing risk to the patient. Types of imaging include fluoroscopy, MRI, CT, and ultrasound.

Intensive Care

Our team of intensive care physicians at DHR Health are highly trained and ready to take care of the most ill patients. Their collaboration with the Trauma Team allows patients with complex issues and comorbidities to receive the most comprehensive care.

Neurosurgery

Traumatic brain injuries occur across all ages but at higher rates in the youngest and oldest individuals. It is common for patients to experience changes in their cognitive functioning and mood following a traumatic brain injury. Neuropsychological testing is beneficial in identifying strengths and weakness after a head injury. They are often used as part of the patient’s rehabilitation treatment program. In addition, follow-up testing is helpful to monitor progress in the patient’s cognitive functioning over time.

Obstetrics & Gynecology

Our maternal fetal medicine specialists provide coverage for in-hospital OB/Gyn patients at our DHR Health Women’s Hospital 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Rest assured that you will have the support of your physician when most needed.

Ophthalmology

The DHR Health Eye Institute is your trusted partner for restoring, enhancing, and protecting your eye health. We are experts in ophthalmic surgery and provide a wide range of treatments for vision correction, cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, and other eye disorders. We understand how unique your eyes are; we take a personalized approach to patient care, which ensures excellent health outcomes and improved quality of life.

Orthopedic Surgery

At DHR Health Orthopedic Trauma Institute, we treat a wide range of high-impact injuries. Auto accidents, falls and sports-related injures usually occur with high impact, which can fracture, displace, and shatter bones. Any injuries sustained during a high-impact activity should promptly be evaluated by an orthopedic team.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

At DHR Health, the OMF team is available 24/7 and specializes in evaluating and managing acute injuries to the mouth and face.

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

Thoracic Surgery

The thorax encompasses the vital structures in the chest, including the heart, lungs, esophagus, diaphragm, and major blood vessels. Thoracic surgery is done to treat and repair disease and injury within the chest. Surgical techniques include traditional open surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and robotic surgery.

Our Trauma Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) offers dedicated, round‑the‑clock critical care for patients recovering from traumatic injuries and complex surgical procedures. Staffed by specially trained trauma physicians and nurses, the SICU is equipped to treat the hospital’s most critically ill patients with continuous monitoring, timely interventions, and a compassionate approach to care.

To support patients throughout their entire recovery journey, our Trauma Clinic provides coordinated follow‑up care with the same team that treated them during their hospital stay. This continuity allows our trauma specialists to closely monitor healing, address complications early, and guide patients through each stage of recovery with personalized support.

Vascular Surgery

We specialize in general and peripheral vascular surgery using the most advanced technological treatment methods possible, including minimally invasive procedures, when appropriate. We provide evaluation and treatment of conditions such as lower extremity arterial disorders, aneurysms, carotid artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, and varicose veins.
