Medical Oncology / Hematology
Rio Grande Valley native, Dr. Jose Cruz joins the DHR Health Oncology Institute. Utilizing state-of-the-art technology and a comprehensive team approach, Dr. Cruz will provide treatment for all cancer types, including blood disorders such as anemia, hemophilia, leukemia, sickle cell anemia, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolisms affecting the body. He is also able to identify if individuals may benefit from a cancer genetic risk assessment by using personal and family history. Dr. Cruz is board certified in internal medicine and received a Bachelor’s of Science in Biomedical Engineering at Yale University and a Master’s in Public Health at Texas A&M Health Science Center before attending the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas where he received his medical degree in osteopathic medicine. He completed an internal medicine and pediatrics residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he was also named Chief Resident. Dr. Cruz also attended the University of Louisiana Health Science Center-Shreveport where he was a hematology and oncology fellow and later named Chief Fellow.
